General Summary: A computed tomography technologist provides health care services by applying x-ray and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis. The incumbent will perform computed tomography procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation at the request of a licensed practitioner. They will provide appropriate patient care and recognize patients’ conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure, as well as provide patient care for all stages of the life span including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares patient and provide patient care during procedure to ensure patient health, safety, well-being, and privacy.
- Utilizes proper computerized tomography, radiography positioning skills, and radiology techniques.
- Ensures continued knowledge of field through appropriate amounts of ongoing education.
- Establish a safe, clean, secure work environment and it prepared for emergency conditions.
- Ensures radiation safety / protections guidelines are followed.
- Demonstrates other job competencies to include safety, infection control and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
- Responsible for the assessment, treatment of care for patients by demonstrating competency in the following as appropriate, clinical knowledge, clinical skills, and communication skills to the ages of the patients’ served.
- Operates computed tomography and radiography equipment and accessories appropriately.
- Meets the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requirements of 24 hours of education every two years and meets the department requirements of 12 hours of education every year.
- Applies infection control and Universal Precautions and Procedures guidelines to all patients, self, and others in immediate area.
- Participates in cost containment activities.
- Able to obtain, maintain, and access patency of intravenous devices.
- Obtains informed consent for contrast-enhanced procedures.
- Ensure successful completion of contrast-enhanced procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an American Medical Association (A.M.A.) approved school of Radiologic Technology.
- Registered American Registry or Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) / MS Board of Health License required.
- Computed Tomography (CT) experience required. Computed Tomography (CT) registry is preferred.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required.
- All certifications must be current and active.
Physical Requirements:
- Walking, standing for extended periods of time.
- Lifting patients, objects (10-40 Lbs. usually).
- Pushing/pulling mobile equipment, patients in wheelchairs or on stretchers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility with scheduling and workload.
