General Summary: It is the policy of Choctaw Regional Medical Center that the nursing technician that works in the Emergency Department will assist the registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with the care of the patients that present to the emergency department. The technicians will follow the safety practices established by the Mississippi Board of Nursing. Demonstrate commitment to philosophies, goals, standards of care, and acceptable standards of personal conduct and behavior.
Essential Functions:
- Obtain vital signs as per policy and place these in the chart. As well as communicate abnormal vital signs to the nursing staff.
- Transport lab specimens to the laboratory department.
- Assist patients in becoming comfortable during their stay (providing pillows/blankets).
- Assist patients to the restroom and with personal care needs.
- Aid the nursing staff with any medical procedures that may require more than one person.
- Stock patient rooms during each shift. Make sure if there are any low/missing supplies in the stock room to fill out a Supply Requisition Form.
- Clean patient rooms when a patient s discharged, or the room becomes soiled.
- Complete the Emergency Department Registration Log for all patients seen in the emergency department (except outpatients).
- Escort patients to/from their vehicles and/or to other departments (radiology, medical-surgical floor, etc.,).
- Adhere to policies and procedures of hospital nursing assistant.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- CPR certification or within 3 months of hire
Physical Requirements:
- Clean, well lit, and comfortable climate.
- Potential exposure to contamination with blood or bodily fluids, requiring wearing protective equipment.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching w/arms, finger, and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing.
- Light work: lifting 20 lbs. Max.
- Medium work: lifting 50 lbs. Max.
- Heavy work: Lifting 100 lbs. Max.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care.
- Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal and communication skills, (verbal, non-verbal, and listening skills).
