General Summary: The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing non-patient equipment, lighting, power distribution and telecommunications.

Essential Functions:

• Initiates patient room preventative maintenance program.
• Identifies and corrects electrical deficiencies.
• Prioritizes work request in order that patient safety and comfort is not compromised.
• Assist supervisor with projects that require electrical knowledge and assistance.
• Assures that electrical functions are per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electrical Code (NEC), Joint Commission on Accreditation Standards of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) regulation.
• Reviews departmental policies to ensure compliance with hospital standards.
• Assist supervisor in checking new equipment for electrical safety and proper use to avoid damages.
• Completes competency checklist annually or more often as required by department policy.

Qualifications:

• High School graduate or GED preferred.
• Graduate of appropriate trade school or technical college is desirable.
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the service of electrical/electronic systems.
• Graduation from an accredited trade school in a related field is desirable and may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.
• Electrical Contractors license is desirable.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

• Use of hands to manipulate hand tools and instruments.
• Sitting, walking, crawling, standing, climbing ladders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic arithmetic understanding.
• Knowledge and understanding of safe working practices.
• Ability to interpret blueprints and technical documents.
