General Summary: This position renders technical nursing care to assigned patients. The incumbent provides direct and indirect care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Licensed Practical Nurses direct and oversee nurse assistants and collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members to achieve the highest standards of care specific to the age and needs of the patient. Provides patient care/services for all stages of the lifespan including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Practices in accordance with hospital philosophy; Nursing Department’s philosophy, goals, and standards of care; (State) Board of Nursing; (State) Nursing Practice Act and other regulating agencies.
  • Promotes the patient’s well-being, maximal independence, and ability to make informed decisions by reinforcing the patient/significant other’s knowledge and understanding of the disease, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Promotes a cooperative working environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building concepts.
  • Maintains job-specific competency which addresses effective, safe use of equipment, infections control, disaster preparedness training, emergency lifesaving procedures (cardiopulmonary resuscitation CPR), and patient information management.
  • Demonstrates cost effective measure through the appropriate use of supplies and resources and time management.
  • Implements the interdisciplinary plan of care within established guidelines to improve or maintain patient’s mental and physical health.
  • Demonstrates competency in clinical knowledge/skills and communication to the ages of the patients served.
  • Obtains vital signs and brief history on patient.
  • Performs diagnostic tests and routine labs.
  • Administer medications and collects specimens as ordered.
  • Maintain clean and well stocked clinical areas and reports to DON any supplies needed.
  • Assist nurse practitioner and provide logistics support as needed or required.
  • Maintains OSHA, CLIA, and immunization records as required.
  • Perform patient education, scheduling and referrals as needed.
  • Follow established policies set forth by Rural Health including regulations for the work area, patient’s rooms, medications and equipment.
  • Follow the established policies of CRMC and CMC at all times.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Mississippi.
  • CPR Certification required or must be obtained within probationary period.

Physical Requirements:

  • Clean, well lit, and comfortable climate.
  • Potential exposure to contamination with blood or bodily fluids, requiring wearing protective equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching with arms, finger, and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, and seeing.
  • Sitting, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling.
  • Ability to concentrate on detailed jobs, handle interruptions and meet deadlines in a busy office situation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, and listening skills).
  • Ability to provide direct and indirect patient care.
  • Ability to work as a team-member and without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of all state and federal requirements in health care.
  • Ability to use a computer, and be courteous and polite with patients and other staff members.
